Seventy-two recall cards drawn from every domain of the CNPE blueprint plus the foundations — served one at a time, the way flashcards are actually meant to be used. Pick a domain, read the question cold, say the answer out loud, then flip. Cards you know drop out of the rotation; cards you fumble come back around. Your progress is saved in this browser, so you can walk away mid-deck and pick it up tomorrow.
Both, with a caveat. The vocabulary on these cards is platform-engineering-wide — reconciliation, golden paths, probes, SLOs, progressive delivery, supply-chain controls — so the recall it builds pays off whichever credential you are sitting. But the deck is cut along the CNPE domains and is not organised to the CNPA blueprint or weighted to match it, so emptying it is not a CNPA readiness signal. If the CNPA is your target, treat the deck as vocabulary maintenance and get your blueprint-aligned reps from the four dedicated banks — Core Fundamentals, Observability & Security, Delivery & APIs, IDP & Measuring — then sit the four mock sets: Set 1, Set 2, Set 3, Set 4.
This is one card at a time, like a real deck in your hand. Read the front, guess the answer in your head, then flip it over. If you got it right, say “I knew it” and Remy takes that card out of the pile. If you didn’t, say “practise again” and it goes to the bottom of the pile to come back later. You’re finished when the pile is empty.
Drill the deck
Choose a domain with the chips, then work the card in front of you. Flip to check, then be honest: I knew it removes the card from this rotation for good, Practise again sends it to the bottom of the pile. Everything is keyboard-driven, so you can keep your hands still and your eyes on the card.

How to drill a deck properly
☺ Like you’re 10: Guess before you flip. The guessing is the part that makes it stick — flipping straight over feels faster but teaches you almost nothing.
Flashcards only work when you make yourself retrieve the answer before you see it. Reading a card front and immediately flipping is re-reading with extra steps; the effort of the failed recall is exactly what builds the memory. Two more rules earn their keep for either exam — a performance-based one like the CNPE and a knowledge-based one like the CNPA: answer out loud in a full sentence (if you can’t say it, you don’t know it), and be ruthless about what counts as “known” — a card you half-remembered belongs back in the pile.
Cards are recall, not competence. The CNPE is 120 minutes on a real terminal, so the deck’s job there is to make the vocabulary free — you should never burn exam time recalling what selfHeal does or which probe removes a Pod from Endpoints. The CNPA is 120 closed-book minutes of multiple choice, so the deck’s job there is different: it gives you the vocabulary you need to tell a correct sentence from three plausible neighbours, but not the near-miss discrimination itself. Either way an empty deck is a starting line, not a finish. From here, CNPE candidates go do the matching practice tasks on a real cluster; CNPA candidates go work the four blueprint-aligned practice banks — core, observability & security, delivery, IDPs & measuring — and then a mock set under the clock.
Pick one domain chip — say GitOps & CD — and hit Shuffle. Now run the whole deck under a timer with a hard rule: you get five seconds per card before you flip. Anything you can’t answer inside five seconds is not known, however familiar it feels — press A and let it come back. Repeat until the deck empties and the congratulations panel appears. Then walk away, come back tomorrow, press Reset progress, and run the same domain cold. The cards that survive that second pass are the ones you actually own; the rest tell you which lesson to re-read tonight.

Close the deck and answer these cold. 1. What is the difference between recognition and recall, and which one does a flashcard actually train? 2. You flip a card and think “oh yes, obviously” — should you press K or A? 3. Your GitOps deck is empty but you still can’t configure an Application with prune and self-heal on a real cluster. What does that tell you about the limits of flashcards? 4. Why does this player remove a known card from the rotation instead of just greying it out? 5. Where does your progress live, and what happens to it on another machine?
Check your answers
- Recognition is “that looks familiar” when the answer is in front of you; recall is producing the answer from nothing. A flashcard only trains recall if you answer before flipping — otherwise you are just re-reading.
A, unless you genuinely produced the answer before the flip. “Obviously” after seeing it is the hindsight trap — the feeling of knowing is not knowing.- That cards train vocabulary, not competence — for either exam. An empty deck is the starting line: for the CNPE, go run the practice tasks and the GitOps lab on a real cluster; for the CNPA, go work the blueprint-aligned practice banks and a mock set.
- Because the value of a deck is the cards you haven’t mastered. Shrinking the rotation concentrates every remaining repetition on your weak spots instead of re-showing you the easy ones.
