The Claude Crew
Every big idea in this course is taught by a recurring animal character who is that idea. This is their staff room — meet the cast, learn each one's superpower, and see exactly which lessons they host. Once you know them, the concepts travel with them.
Imagine a school where each teacher is an animal that's brilliant at one job — a wise owl explains things, an elephant never forgets, an octopus juggles lots of helpers at once. When you spot that animal in a lesson, you already know what the lesson is about. That's the trick: remember the animal, remember the idea.
How the crew works
☺ Like you're 10: It's like a cartoon — the same characters show up in every episode, so you always know who's who and what they're good at.
Two little features carry the cast through every lesson:
- "Your host for this topic" — a strip at the top of each page tells you which character is hosting, so you know the flavour of the concept before you read a word.
- "🎬 At the Claude Crew" — a short scene where the characters act the concept out. The host demonstrates their specialty, Foxy asks the question you're secretly thinking, and Professor Owl or Timmy the Turtle closes the loop.
Each animal maps to one real skill Claude-based systems need. Remember the character and you've remembered the concept — memory, retrieval, tool use, verification, orchestration — long after the specific parameter names fade.
The Core Crew — foundations, hosted
☺ Like you're 10: These fourteen are the main crew you'll meet across the 21 foundation lessons — one for nearly every big job a Claude-based system needs done.
Professor Owl
Wise and patient — explains what's really happening and keeps it safe and fair. Hosts: Welcome, What Is Claude?, Safety, Patterns, Next Steps.
Foxy
Asks the exact question you're thinking, and sniffs out why a prompt went wrong. Hosts: Prompting Fundamentals, Advanced Prompting, Self-Check.
Ellie the Elephant
Never forgets a thing — the context window, prompt caching, and what to keep vs. drop. Hosts: Streaming & Context, Prompt Caching.
Benny the Beaver
Loves constructing — turns ideas into working tools, agents, and shipped systems. Hosts: Claude Code, Production Deployment, the code-review capstone.
Olly the Octopus
Eight helpful arms — runs many Claude-powered helpers at once and keeps them in sync. Hosts: Building Effective Agents, Agent SDK & MCP, the research capstone.
Timmy the Turtle
Slow but accurate — double-checks every answer so nothing wrong slips through. Hosts: Evaluation & Testing, Patterns, Quick Reference.
Nutty the Squirrel
Stores everything, and finds the right fact by meaning, not just keyword. Hosts: RAG with Claude, Glossary, the research capstone.
Pip the Hummingbird
Fast delivery — zips requests, tool calls, and structured replies between Claude and your code. Hosts: Messages API, Tool Use, Structured Outputs, MCP.
Sol the Sloth
Slow and deliberate wins the hard ones. Hosts: Advanced Prompting, Extended Thinking.
Cami the Chameleon
Adapts to any input — text, images, whatever the task needs. Hosts: Vision & Multimodal.
Pico the Penguin
Plans before it builds. Hosts: Setting Up Your Environment, Claude Code.
Rocky the Raccoon
Thinks like an attacker so you don't have to find out the hard way. Hosts: Safety & Responsible Use.
Delphi the Dolphin
Claude itself, in its most approachable form. Hosts: What Is Claude?.
Foxy: Fourteen teachers for one API? Isn't that a bit much?
Professor Owl: A Claude-based system isn't one skill, Foxy — it's many. A memory, a builder, a fact-checker, a way to look things up, someone to keep it safe.
Olly the Octopus: And when a task needs several of us at once, that's my cue — I hand each helper their piece and keep them rowing together.
Timmy the Turtle: Then I check the result before anyone trusts it. Meet us once here, and you'll recognise us in every lesson.
The Capstone Crew — one guide per domain
☺ Like you're 10: The six capstones are real jobs in different worlds — support, code, money, health, research, shopping — so each one gets its own expert guide, on top of the Core Crew skills it borrows.
The six capstone projects each combine several Core Crew skills inside a real business domain. Each one also gets its own domain guide — new faces whose whole personality is a warning label for that domain's biggest risk:
Bea the Bee
Buzzes between tickets to the flower with the real nectar — the grounded answer — and flies straight back to the hive (escalates to a human) the moment she isn't sure. Hosts: Customer Support Agent.
Baxter the Badger
A methodical burrower who digs through every line before giving the all-clear — "measure twice, dig once." Hosts: Code Review Pipeline.
Quill the Hedgehog
Careful and precise — curls up defensively around any number until it's been double-checked. Hosts: Financial Document Intelligence.
Koa the Koala
Calm, unhurried, and never diagnoses — always carries the patient's story straight to a human who can. Hosts: Clinical Intake & Triage.
Flora the Flamingo
Balances gracefully on one leg between what a customer typed and what's actually in stock. Hosts: E-Commerce Copilot.
Olly the Octopus
Back again — the research capstone is orchestrator-workers end to end, which has always been Olly's specialty. Hosts: Multi-Agent Research System.
The running story
☺ Like you're 10: Across the course, the crew is really building one thing together — so each lesson is like the next episode of the same show.
The scenes aren't random. Across the Foundations track, the crew quietly builds and runs a real Claude-based helper: Professor Owl explains what the model is, Foxy learns to prompt it well, Ellie keeps its memory in check, Pip wires it to tools, Nutty feeds it real facts, Olly grows it into a team of agents, and Timmy keeps the whole thing honest. Follow the Foundations in order and you'll watch that story unfold — then watch the Capstone Crew apply it for real.
Can you name the character for each role — teacher, memory, builder, many-agents, fact-checker, data, messenger, careful-thinker, shape-shifter, coder, red-teamer, and Claude itself? If so, you've got a mental hook for every big idea in the course. Now start the Foundations.
