CCAR-P — Claude Certified Architect, Professional

The senior tier of the Architect track, and the most interesting blueprint of the four: alongside solution design and integration, 28% of it is governance, stakeholder communication and lifecycle management. That is a deliberate statement — at this level, the exam treats “can you explain the tradeoff to the people paying for it” as an architecture skill. One of four Claude certifications.

CCAR-P targets mid-to-senior technical professionals who design, build and deliver production AI solutions — solution architects, AI/ML engineers, technical leads — operating between business requirements and technical implementation. The guide names financial services, healthcare, retail, technology, education and government as typical settings, and notes these people are usually the ones in front of stakeholders and clients.

⚠ Check you can register before you plan

Anthropic’s exam guide says there are no mandatory prerequisites or courses and the credential is awarded on exam performance alone — that concerns knowledge. The Partner Academy certifications FAQ says certification is currently available to people at Claude Partner Network organizations, and registration needs a partner email on a recognized company domain; personal addresses will not work. That is an eligibility gate and it applies to all four Claude exams. At $175 this is the priciest of the four — confirm eligibility first.

The flattest blueprint of the four — nothing below 7%, nothing above 19%. There is no domain you can safely skip, and the two “soft” domains together (28%) outweigh the largest technical one.

CCAR-P draws on the Applied tier of this course more than the Foundations tier — it assumes you know the concepts and asks whether you can weigh them against each other.

◆ The one mental model

Foundations asks “what is the correct approach?” Professional asks “which of these defensible approaches fits these constraints, and can you say why?” Expect scenarios where two or three options are genuinely workable and the deciding factor is buried in the stem — a compliance requirement, a latency budget, a team that cannot maintain what you build. Read the constraints before the options.

⚠ Where technical candidates lose marks

Strong engineers routinely under-prepare the governance and stakeholder domains because they feel like soft skills. They are 28% of this exam — more than integration and more than solution design. If your revision plan has no time in it for risk assessment, auditability, handover and explaining tradeoffs to a non-technical audience, your plan is missing over a quarter of the marks.

Practise the thing that is hardest to revise. Take a Claude system you have built or designed, and write three short documents about it: (a) a one-paragraph explanation for a budget-holder who does not know what an API is, naming the tradeoff you chose and what you gave up; (b) a risk register with five entries and a mitigation for each; (c) a handover note telling the next team what will break first and why. Between them those cover both 14% domains — and they are genuinely useful artifacts regardless of the exam.
