The AI Academy
Every big idea in this course is taught by a recurring animal character who is that idea. This is their staff room — meet the cast, learn each one’s superpower, and see exactly which lessons they host. Once you know them, the concepts travel with them.
Imagine a little school where each teacher is an animal that’s brilliant at one job — a wise owl explains things, an elephant never forgets, an octopus juggles lots of helpers at once. When you spot that animal in a lesson, you already know what the lesson is about. That’s the trick: remember the animal, remember the idea.
How the Academy works
☺ Like you’re 10: It’s like a cartoon: the same characters show up in every episode, so you always know who’s who and what they’re good at.
Two little features carry the cast through every lesson:
- “Your host for this topic” — a strip at the top of each page tells you which character is hosting, so you know the flavour of the concept before you read a word.
- “🎬 At the AI Academy” — a short scene where the characters act the concept out. Professor Owl teaches, Foxy asks the question you’re secretly thinking, the host character demonstrates their specialty, and Timmy double-checks the result.
Each animal maps to one real AI role. Remember the character and you’ve remembered the concept — the agent loop, memory, retrieval, verification — long after the details fade.
The core cast
☺ Like you’re 10: These eight are the main crew — you’ll see them again and again, one for each big job an AI system needs done.
Professor Owl
Wise and patient — explains what’s really happening and keeps it safe and fair. Teaches: the AI landscape, how models work, responsible AI, & the exams.
Foxy
Asks the exact question you’re thinking, and sniffs out why an answer went wrong. Teaches: prompting & context, debugging, the self-check.
Ellie the Elephant
Never forgets a thing — the context window, long-term memory, and your saved instructions. Teaches: agent memory, custom instructions, retrieval.
Benny the Beaver
Loves constructing — turns ideas into working tools. Teaches: building agents, pipelines, the capstone.
Olly the Octopus
Eight helpful arms — runs many AI helpers at once and keeps them in sync. Teaches: multi-agent systems, the agent loop.
Timmy the Turtle
Slow but accurate — double-checks every answer so nothing wrong slips through. Teaches: verification, AI security, evals, safe operations.
Nutty the Squirrel
Stores everything — gathers the facts and finds the right one by meaning. Teaches: retrieval & RAG, embeddings, data.
Pip the Hummingbird
Fast delivery — zips prompts, replies, and API calls between apps. Teaches: MCP, APIs, building on an API.
The supporting cast
☺ Like you’re 10: These friends pop in for a scene whenever their special skill comes up — like guest stars.

The running story
☺ Like you’re 10: Across the course, the class is really building one thing together — so each lesson is like the next episode of the same show.
The scenes aren’t random. Across the course the Academy is quietly building and running real AI helpers: Professor Owl explains what a model is, Foxy learns to ask it well, Nutty feeds it the right facts, Benny builds it into a tool, Olly grows it into a team of agents, and Timmy keeps the whole thing honest. Follow the Foundations in order and you’ll watch that story unfold.
Foxy: Why do we need a whole zoo of teachers? Can’t one of you explain everything?
Professor Owl: Because AI isn’t one job, Foxy — it’s many. A brain, a memory, hands to build, a way to look things up, and someone to check the work.
Olly the Octopus: And when there’s a lot to do at once, that’s my cue — I hand a task to each helper and keep them all rowing together.
Timmy the Turtle: Then I check the result before anyone trusts it. Meet us once here, and you’ll recognise us in every lesson.
Can you name the character for each role — teacher, memory, builder, many-agents, fact-checker, data, messenger, and the one who asks the questions? If so, you’ve got a mental hook for every big idea in the course. Now start the Foundations.
